POSITION SUMMARY :

The Academic Advisor I will serve our undergraduate and graduate students in both online and campus-based modalities. The Academic Advisor I is responsible for fostering student engagement, engaging in the promotion of support services in areas including but not limited to course registration, new student orientations, problem-solving student issues, advising students, staff, adjunct faculty and administrators; regarding educational requirements focusing on procedural engagement. The incumbent is responsible for adhering to all internal, Federal, and Department of Education policies and procedures including FERPA.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The incumbent performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Interprets program procedures, policies, goals and objectives. Counsels and confers with students providing guidance and problem resolution; Coordinates and administers support students with new and enrolled students, such as course registration, graduation processing, petitioning, withdrawals, program documentation, student learning accounts, information sessions, receptions, and student orientations; Initiates, develops and sustains strong positive relations with Academic Deans, Faculty Advisors, Program Managers, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and department leads to ensure achievement of institutional goals and objectives relative to department success; Assists with annual commencement activities, new student orientations, enrollment recruitment events and other related events; Monitoring assigned student academic progress and intervening as needed with students in academic difficulty; Assessing students' academic and non-academic characteristics in order to construct an academic success plan that incorporates support, advisement, enrichment activities, as well strategies to address personal, social, career, and financial well-being; Advising at-risk student populations through work/life balance, time management, and other circumstances to ensure successful degree program matriculation; Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds; Perform other duties as assigned. Is regular attendance an essential function? ☒ Yes ☐ No ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES : Knowledge: Knowledge of the FERPA Regulation. Understanding of academic advising principles and practices in higher education. Familiarity with student support services and retention strategies. Preferred: Knowledge of institutional policies, degree requirements, and academic policies. Preferred: Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices in student advising. Skills: Excellent PC skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other clerical skills (phone skills, typing, filing). Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills. Strong personal planning and organizational skills aligned with accountability and responsibility. Abilities : Ability to quickly learn school technology, including CampusNexus, CampusVue, Perceptive Content, CRM, and Student Portal. Ability to exercise independent judgment, sound decision-making, critical thinking, and complex logic model skills to resolve diverse student-related issues. Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with students at various educational levels, as well as employees at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to function positively in a complex, fast-paced team environment and meet multiple deadlines. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS : Education: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of 6 month's experience in a higher education setting required. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quite to moderately noisy while in the office. The office temperature is about 70 degrees.

DECISION MAKING:

The position is governed by the policies of Pacific Oaks, along with established procedures for the department. Independent judgment is required in the supervision of personnel as well as in the carrying out of the department's strategic goals and budget management.

CONTACT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Routine exchange or presentation of information. Responsible for demonstrating professionalism and leadership in resolving conflicts with students and employees. Recommends alternative approaches to solve problems and conflicts.
