This position is part of the Connect 6ix project. Toronto's new Ontario Line subway is now under construction. The Connect 6ix consortium has a key role in this project, delivering the trains, the signaling system, and the operations, storage, and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate the Ontario Line for a 30-year term once it comes into service.

Role Overview

As a Surveyor, you will conduct precise land and construction surveys using advanced instruments like total stations and GPS. You’ll ensure safety compliance and support project planning through accurate data collection and analysis. Your role includes setting out construction layouts and verifying site progress against design specifications. Collaboration with engineers and project teams is key to resolving survey-related challenges. You’ll also maintain equipment and produce detailed maps, reports, and legal documentation.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures while performing surveying activities on construction sites.
  • Conduct land surveys, topographic surveys, and construction surveys using advanced surveying equipment and techniques.
  • Prepare and set up surveying instruments, including total stations, GPS receivers, digital and laser levels, to accurately measure distances, elevations, and angles.
  • Collect and analyze survey data to create maps, drawings, and reports that provide essential information for project planning and design.
  • Assist in the layout of construction sites, including building corners, utilities, and roadways, to guide construction activities and ensure accuracy.
  • Monitor construction progress and verify compliance with project specifications, building codes, and regulatory requirements through regular site inspections and surveys.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve survey-related issues and ensure project objectives are met.
  • Maintain survey equipment, tools, and records in accordance with company policies and industry standards.
  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed for redlines and as built drawings.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working as a surveyor in the construction industry, with a focus on land surveying and construction layout in significant transit projects preferably.
  • A relevant college or University degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in surveying software and equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, Levels and CAD software (Civil3D preferred).
  • Experience with Leica Infinity, Trimble Business Center, and StarNet is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles, techniques, and methodologies, with the ability to perform accurate measurements and calculations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to delivering high-quality surveying services.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, plans, and layout sheets and keep legible survey notes.
